NEW: Fired But Fighting FAQs

We’ve been doing a lot of research and outreach to address your many, many questions. Please visit the new Fired But Fighting FAQ page for legislative and judicial questions, unemployment and career resources, severance pay and benefits, DSR and retirement options, and advocacy.

Latest Judicial Updates

A lot has changed since last week. Two court orders that had reinstated some of us have now been put on hold, leaving things up in the air again. This update breaks down what’s happening in the Maryland and California cases, what the Supreme Court just did, and where things stand with the Merit Systems Protection Board. Download a summary of the latest developments.

Calls to Action

» SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER—Fired But Fighting is getting big, and our team is small. Please consider donating some time to the cause! Complete the volunteer form to sign up:  Volunteer — Fired But Fighting.

»Get Loud About the No Rogue Rulings Act—The House just passed the No Rogue Rulings Act, which would prevent federal district judges from issuing nationwide injunctions—orders that have been key in efforts to reinstate fired CDC employees. The bill now moves to the Senate. If you want courts to retain the power to block unlawful mass firings, contact your senators and urge them to oppose this bill.

» Contribute to the New Crowdsourced Calendar—Please add any events applicable to terminated/RIF'd CDC employees, including job fairs, happy hours, support groups, etc. Email info@firedbutfighting.com for editing access. We’ll embed the calendar on the website next week.

» Tune in to NBC on May 1—NBC is hosting a live town hall for fired CDC employees, which will include many of our Fired But Fighting activists. We’ll share the time as soon as we know.

» Fired But Fighting on Social Media—Follow us on Bluesky and Instagram

» Join the New LinkedIn Job Board—Last week, we launched a new LinkedIn job board for former CDC employees. Make sure you join the group and share the link with others. If you have trouble finding the group, search for “Opportunities for Former CDC Staff.”

Union Corner

To RIF’d employees: DO NOT SEND the document titled “Authorization for Release of Information". Stand-by for further instruction.

» AFGE Local 2883 has requested legal review of this document.  After an official legal opinion is obtained, additional steps will be disseminated as soon as possible

» If Legal Services deems submission of this document is beneficial to the employee, a standardized version with specific instructions will be immediately distributed.

» Finally, please be patient, we will be sending very detailed instructions, updates, and additional resources for RIF'd employees ASAP—probably sometime tomorrow.

 In Solidarity,

Quick Tip

Check Your TSP Beneficiaries—If you were recently separated, log into your TSP account and double-check your beneficiary designations. Termination doesn’t reset them, but life changes like job loss or health concerns are a smart time to make sure the right people are listed, especially if you filled it out years ago and haven’t looked back since.
